New video game don’t work – now what – 21th Edition

Your video driver is out of date and it has not bothered you at all until now. After all you were using the same application programs since you got your computer.

Now, you bought a new game or downloaded a new version of flash or something else is updated and your video subsystem becomes unstable. So now you need to update your video driver.

There is the manual way. It is not that difficult, You open the display in the control panel and find out which manufacturer produced your video device:

Then you go to the manufacturer’s site – just Google it. Find the driver for your model number and download it and click on the download and all should be well.

How to set a Widows XP restore point – 20th Edition

I have written about things that may go wrong when you make major changes to to your Microsoft Windows operating system. This was made more apparent when I talked to my neighbor who ruined her Windows XP PC by trying upgrade to Windows 7. I thought it was going to cost her $400 but in fact it cost $700 (you could have bought a new laptop for that) to restore all her data files as well as make the OS work again.

This shows how important it is to always create a manual restore point before you make any major change in your Windows computer.

From Microsoft’s web site:

The System Restore feature is built into Windows XP and is used to return your computer to an earlier state if you have a system failure or other major problem with your computer. The point of System Restore is to restore your system to a workable state without you having to reinstall the operating system and lose your data files in the process.

The way to set a restore point is:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click System.
2. In  the system properties select the system restore tab.
3. Select the System Properties dialog box, on the System Restore tab, use the slider to increase the allocated disk space, and then click OK.
4. Next go to programs -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore and click
5. Now select the create a restore point radio button and click next
6. You can name it – the date will be added and hit create to create the restore point.

Note that restore points can take up to 200 megabytes of disc space.
